To salute the COVID-19 heroes working tirelessly to battle COVID-19, and its impact on patients in Canada, we asked for Hospital Hero nominations. The entries amazed us even more than we expected.
We’re proud to reveal our ValleyMed Hospital Heroes 2020 winner: Fergus Cubbage of St. Michael’s Hospital Toronto.
Fergus, a Med/ surg ICU nurse, was nominated because:
-A nurse for over 15 years, he has carried for the very sick in ICU throughout the outbreak
-Fergus has worked extra shifts in ‘St Mikes’ and also in Michael Garron Hospital
-He has filled the Charge Nurse role while delivering bedside nursing
-Fergus continues to show dedication to patients as well as support less experienced nurses
-He still found time to record a podcast for the St Mikes Foundation to help communicate the work of the ICU
Selfless Devotion to Care
What happened when we contacted Fergus to pass on his $500 Amazon voucher? Fergus said he would share the prize with ICU colleagues.
Yet another example of outstanding dedication to helping others.
Vince Morris, on behalf of ValleyMed, explained how proud it had made the ValleyMed team to celebrate Fergus and his work: “Taking time out to appreciate all the nominations, as well as discover the superb example set by Fergus, has been a high point of recent weeks and a proud duty for everyone at ValleyMed.
“We hope our gesture of thanks goes some way to express our sincere thanks for Canadian professions working on the frontline against COVID-19 while helping those lives have been impacted by the outbreak.”
